Location : Newcastle - Hybrid Engagement : 12-month full-time contract Rate : $50-$65 per hour plus super About the Role We’re seeking a passionate and motivated Software Engineer with a strong focus on back-end development to join a well-established team in Newcastle. You’ll work across Java‑based services, integrations, and web applications, helping deliver high‑quality solutions that support our business and customers. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with a team of software developers and product owners to design, build, and maintain services that are reliable, secure, and easy to evolve. Your key responsibilities will include: Writing clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices, including strong adherence to web application security Building and integrating RESTful and asynchronous APIs to introduce new features and enhance existing products Collaborating with team members through code reviews, testing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing Collaborating with other teams to support and maintain our applications Working with relational databases, including writing efficient and optimised SQL Contributing to front‑end features using Vue.js Helping modernise legacy systems and front ends using modern technologies. Experience & Skills Required You will bring 3 years of experience in a Java focused Software Engineering role, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications (ideally B.CompSci, B.Eng (Software), or equivalent). To succeed in this role, you will have most of the following skills and experience: Experience with Spring / Spring Boot and the broader Java ecosystem Skills writing SQL, with experience in Oracle or other relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) Experience integrating with third‑party APIs, including asynchronous and RESTful APIs Experience working collaboratively in a team environment, including performing code reviews and testing. An understanding of web application security principles and best practices Ideally, you will have some experience or familiarity with: Vue.js or an equivalent front‑end framework (e.g., React, Angular) Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, and Bamboo About the company Qvalent specialises in creating software products for the financial and banking sector.
