About Us : Katherine Town Council is the Municipal Council for Katherine, NT. Providing services to the Katherine Community relating to rates, roads, infrastructure, animal control, waste management and other core essential services. At the heart of the Big Rivers region is Katherine, the fourth largest township in the Northern Territory. Outside of Darwin and Palmerston Local Government Areas, Katherine is the next major regional centre closest to the Port of Darwin; the only major multimodal port located in Northern Australia and Australia's gateway to the Asia Pacific. Katherine is located at a critical crossroads point for Northern Australia and the top end, connecting Perth to Darwin from the west and Adelaide to Darwin through the north/south highway and rail corridor. Katherine services the wider region with access to education and medical services. Around 8,000 people live in the Katherine municipality. The local RAAF Airbase at the Katherine suburb of Tindal adds around 2,000 to this figure making it over 10,000 people living and working in Katherine. VALUES Accepting of DIVERSITY Sense of COMMUNITY Respect for PEOPLE, our ENVIRONMENT and our CULTURE About You : Certificate/tertiary qualification in operational works and/or services Qualifications at a minimum diploma level and/or substantial experience in the delivery of a community-based service. Experience in Local Government Current NT Drivers Licence Position Summary : This position reports to the Manager Community relations and is responsible for the coordination and delivery of operational services at the Katherine Visitor Information Centre (VIC), Katherine Museum and Katherine Public Library. Key Requirements : Previous experience in Local Government role A thorough understanding of tourism operations. An understanding of public library workings and purpose. Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage a multi-disciplinary team across several locations Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and a track record of successfully innovating business systems and practices A thorough understanding of Work, Health and Safety requirements and the proven ability to implement safe work practices; Demonstrated ability to proactively communicate with influence to both internal and external stakeholders to achieve best outcomes for Council. Demonstrated ability to produce formal correspondence and reports Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office suite of products and packages; Job Responsibility : Position's Key Responsibilities Provide leadership of staff at the VIC, Museum and Library by demonstrating and ensuring compliance with the behaviours reflected in Council policies, supporting staff development, effective performance management, mentoring and training staff as required to ensure continuity of operations. Ensure compliance with budgets, ensuring effective use of resources and rostering to maintain smooth daily operations Oversight of each venue to ensure the safety, security and presentation of each site, ensure compliance with all operational procedures and policies. Develop and implement procedures as required. Support the promotion of Katherine as a regional tourism destination through engaging visitor experiences across all sites Ensure the library provides engaging and accessible services that promote literacy, learning and digital inclusion Ensure activation of spaces at all sites to maximise opportunities for both local and visitor engagement that align with Council objectives Ensure compliance with funding agreement requirements and performance targets, assist with funding applications and acquittals Maintain strong partnerships with tourism operators, educational institutions and local businesses to enhance community engagement through facility-based initiatives. Development of programs, promotional material and campaigns to support visitor attraction and cultural events. Work closely with stakeholders to ensure Council services are inclusive, accessible and tailored to meet the needs of diverse community groups. Support the implementation of Council projects linked to the advancement of cultural heritage, tourism and educational initiatives. Represent Council at approved committees, meetings and events. Provide regular and ad hoc reports to Council and management, on programs, projects, services, and operations. Other responsibilities as shall be reasonably associated with or incidental to the above responsibilities or as shall, in the course of the employment, be agreed between the parties as being or forming part of the duties. Organisational Responsibilities Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements. Comply with workplace procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control. Participate in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety. Identify and report health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, property damage and mishaps at the workplace. Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council's Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster; Ensure incumbent is dedicated to servicing our community and will listen to and proactively respond to their needs; Foster sustainable, honest relationships with the community and stakeholders Perform and deliver results that align with organisations strategic direction and serve our community; Work in accordance with Council's Vision and Mission statement Provide excellent customer service through incoming telephone calls, email and front counter enquiries Job Functions : Local Job Benefits : 6 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading 3 weeks personal carers leave Wellness strategy including 50% gym membership discounts Selling Point : Career growth opportunities, and benefits with Katherine Town Council, with a small supportive team Contact : Cherie Bush
