As a First Nations Police Liaison Officer, you will assist in developing trust and understanding between members of the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association and the Napranum community by liaising with local First Nations communities and people from diverse backgrounds.
Targeted Vacancy
This is an identified position. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the role be filled by a First Nations person in accordance with Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act ****.
Core Capability Requirements
Assist police officers to communicate effectively with the local community by providing advice on local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs and protocols.
Provide guidance to stakeholders on balancing cultural, policing, QPCYWA, and community needs.
Support community members in accessing policing and PCYC services and, where necessary, refer them to other community services.
Assist in delivering and developing a broad range of safe activities that meet the community's needs, with an emphasis on young people.
Assist in developing and implementing crime prevention, youth and community development programs to promote engagement through PCYC programmes.
Maintain contact with community leaders by attending meetings, forums, events and festivals, collaborating to incorporate community concerns into policing issues.
Communicate sensitively to prevent offensive behaviour, violence, unrest and potential crime.
Role Requirements
Genuine occupational requirement for a First Nations Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, with referees attesting to cultural capabilities.
Occupational requirement to hold a Queensland "C" class driver's licence or be able to obtain one.
Must agree to wear the Police Liaison Officer uniform and work a set roster, which may include weekend and shift work.
Shift penalties and overtime may apply.
The interview process may include a written exercise.
Successful applicants must complete the initial Police Liaison Officer Employment Training programme at the Queensland Police Service Academy, Oxley.
