About the role
The Case Manager – Community Recovery Program will provide case management and coordination services to assist Hope Vale community members, particularly those impacted by disaster, to have access to trauma informed mental health and emotional wellbeing support tailored to their needs. The position also contributes to reducing stigma and barriers to care, strengthening community resilience and building capacity for locally led, long-term recovery and preparedness for future disasters in ways that safeguard mental health and wellbeing. This position is full time and fixed term, ending 30 June 2026.
This position is identified where, under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- More than 3 years of experience as a social and community services worker,
- Demonstrated experience implementing culturally responsive care plans supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Skilled in applying strength-based approaches when working with individuals, families, and groups to foster empowerment and resilience.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary casework practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients with mental health support needs.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, negotiation, and mediation skills, with the capacity to work autonomously and manage multiple case plans effectively
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
- Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory requirements:
- Diploma in Community Services, Diploma of Mental Health or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
- Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.
- Current AFP National Police Clearance or willing to obtain prior to commencement.
