Roasting & Quality Manager – Allpress Espresso

We've been roasting speciality coffee for over 30 years. From humble beginnings as a little coffee cart in Auckland, NZ, Allpress has evolved into a sophisticated brand that stands for flavour and service. Right from the start three core principles have formed the backbone of our business – People, Flavour and Innovation.

We are united in our genuine care for each other, our customers, and our belief in what we do. We need great people who will bring their imagination, skills and most importantly, their passion to our business.

About the role

We're on the lookout for an experienced and passionate Roasting & Quality Manager to join our Melbourne site. This is a vital role responsible for making sure our coffee continues to taste exceptional every single day.

You'll lead and manage the roasting and quality operations, ensuring smooth production scheduling, strong quality control, and preventative maintenance across our roasting equipment. You'll work closely with our green bean team, support site operations, and act as a key voice in upholding Allpress's flavour and quality standards.

You will:

Lead, train, and coach team members across roasting and quality operations

Own roasting schedules and green bean inventory management at the site

Champion quality control processes including tastings, cuppings, grading and reporting

Oversee roasting plant performance and preventative maintenance plans

Troubleshoot equipment issues and manage external technical relationships

Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including coffee, operations and commercial teams

Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, sustainability, and product consistency

Support and implement food safety, HACCP, and quality certification standards

Be a flavour guardian, making sure our coffee consistently meets our high expectations

This is a hands-on role with national influence, perfect for someone who understands the craft and the science of roasting, and is passionate about building a quality-driven coffee culture.

About you

At least 5 years' experience in coffee or related production/quality roles

Proven track record in roasting operations and quality assurance

Confident leading teams and training others in process and best practice

Strong understanding of green bean handling, equipment maintenance, and supply planning

Experience working with preventative maintenance and continuous improvement tools

Skilled in cupping, sensory evaluation and flavour profiling (Q Grader preferred)

Knowledge of HACCP, food safety and compliance frameworks

A calm and methodical approach to troubleshooting and root cause analysis

Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset

Working at Allpress

In addition to great company culture, we offer some nice staff perks including as much free coffee as you like while at work, 250g of beans to take home weekly, a free and confidential Employee Assistance Program, Parental Leave and Wellbeing allowances. We are also committed to upholding high standards of Employee Health and Wellbeing.

Diversity and Inclusion
Allpress is committed to being an inclusive organisation where all people feel valued, respected and engaged. We pledge a commitment to:

Building inclusive teams that represent all groups in society

Empowering our people to continuously improve the way we work and promote equity

Removing barriers and the influence of bias

Creating a safe environment where we're encouraged to speak out against discrimination in any form

Cultivating a sense of belonging by encouraging our people to fearlessly bring their whole selves to work
