Cancer Council ACT is a non-government, not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to promoting a healthier community by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer across the ACT.

This is achieved through community engagement, prevention initiatives, the provision of reliable information and support services, investment in cancer research, and the delivery of major fundraising campaigns and events.

Their iconic campaigns across the ACT include Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, The Longest Day, Daffodil Day and Relay for Life, which mobilise community support and generate vital funds for cancer research, prevention and support services.

Their vision is for a cancer free future. Their purpose is to alleviate the impact of cancer within the community, guided by their principles of compassion, collaboration, trust, innovation and excellence.

The Opportunity

As the Senior Communications Coordinator you will play a key role in bringing Cancer Council ACT's story to life. You will help shape and deliver meaningful communications that connect the community to the organisation's mission and impact.

Through compelling storytelling, social media, and event promotion, you will amplify Cancer Council ACT's voice and strengthen community engagement. With strong writing skills and a creative, data-informed approach, you will help grow awareness, deepen connections, and support people affected by cancer across the community.

* From web copy and strategy to social content and production, you'll use your creativity across a wide range of communications
* You will be a part of a small tight knit team who are making real impact on real people

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

* Develop and deliver integrated communications and marketing plans aligned with organisational priorities
* Create, edit, and publish engaging content across social media, website, eDMs, and publications
* Manage key communication channels, including social media, website, and email marketing platforms
* Build and maintain proactive relationships with local media and respond to media enquiries
* Identify and secure media opportunities, including media releases, briefings, and proactive story pitching
* Support engagement of priority stakeholder groups through targeted communications
* Collaborate with the Fundraising and Marketing team to support campaigns and fundraising initiatives
* Collaborate with the Client Services team to grow awareness and engagement with Cancer Council ACT's supportive care services and prevention programs
* Monitor, evaluate, and report on communication performance, applying insights to improve outcomes

The Ideal Person

You will be an experienced communications professional with a minimum 3 years of experience, with demonstrated experience in a communications, marketing and/or media role.

You will also have:

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, supported by tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field
* Ability to apply brand guidelines and maintain consistent tone of voice across communications
* Working knowledge of SEO and digital analytics to inform communications performance and improvement
* Experience using social media platforms and tools such as Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn - Meta Business Suite highly regarded
* Experience in MS Office Suite, Canva, and/or other design tools – desirable

To be eligible for the role, you must have full working rights in Australia, as well as the ability to attain a Working With Vulnerable People card.

Salary / Rate

* Free parking available
* Location: Deakin ACT
* Flexible arrangement available (some WFH and flexible hours)
* Opportunity for three additional days of annual leave over Christmas, subject to approval
* Permanent full-time role, with flexibility to support a 4-day working week if required
