This will provide exposure to both sides of the business and ensure the apprentice has the best opportunity to develop and grow throughout their apprentice training years.About youThe primary responsibility of an Otis apprentice is to dedicate their work time and efforts to learning the role as a Lift Electrician/Mechanic. The Apprentice will assist the tradesman onsite in completing the Installation, Moderisation, Repairs and Maintenance of escalators, elevators and travelators.Depending on their year of study and as the apprentice gains more experience and qualifications the apprentice will progressively be able to have more freedom and autonomy in their role. It is however important to note that at all times of the apprenticeship an Otis apprentice must be working within 'line of site' of a qualified mechanic and working under direct supervision as outlined in the Otis Apprentice Guideline.Both the apprentice and the supervisor should refer to the Apprentice Guideline for more specific details in relation to what is required of them.Key responsibilities for an ApprenticeAccepting instruction and training in the vocation given by OTIS workplace supervisors, supervising electricians, mechanics, leading hands or Field EngineersAttend all in-house OTIS training & assessment sessions set by OTISStrictly adhering to all OTIS policies, procedures, cardinal rules & World Wide Job Site Safety Standards (VVWJSSS). The apprentice must maintain a current Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) book recording all JHA's completed.Responsible for complying with company Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures including reporting any conditions which may impact on the environment or any employee.Attend all scheduled training delivered by the designated Registered Training Organisation (RTO) (TAFE) including maintaining a training attendance & assessment log book,Successfully completing all required assignments and other assessment tasks set by the RTO in order to enable successful completion & attainment of the Certificate III Electrotechnology Qualification,Maintaining the competency record book or workplace evidence logbook to a satisfactory standard which passes final assessment at the end of the term of the TAFE studies to enable attainment of the Certificate III Electrotechnology qualification and Electrical License.Successfully complete the Capstone electrical assessment at the end of the 3rd year of the apprenticeship in order to attain an Electrical License.Ensure that any safety related issues arising during the course of their duties including being asked to perform a task in an unsafe manner or without the correct tooling, or that is perceived to create a hazard and could potentially put them or others at risk of injury are reported to their direct supervisor in the first instance. If no action is taken to rectify the issue then a 'Safety Dilemma" must be raised.An apprentice keeps the same work schedule as his trainer or mentor, classwork and homework are done after work hoursReport any situations at work which place the apprentice in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation directly to the supervisor. If no action is taken, the issue should be reported to the BPO, The Apprentice Master or the Ombudsman.Entering a minimum of 2 on the job tasks per week into the Task Evidence Logbook and performs work in accordance with the relevant Award and f or Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.Show an interest in learning all aspects of the elevator business & electrical trade.What you will need to be successfulA good command of the English language, both verbal and written.Must have a Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent It is ideal for an Otis apprentice to have a Certificate 2 Electrical Foundations and also a Higher School Certificate or equivalentRelevant Construction or Service related work experience highly desirable.An apprentice must successfully pass each required module within the Certificate 3 Electrotechnology qualification syallbus in the allocated training year. Where an apprentice fails a module they may be entitled to re-sit the assessment or exam in the current study semester.
