Correctional centres are responsible for the delivery of custodial services across Queensland. People in custody are supervised in either high or low security correctional centres. High security centres provide for the management of adult prisoners held in secure custody correctional centres across Queensland.
The Correctional Counsellor will contribute to a high level of community safety through the provision of welfare assistance, counselling, and approved programs to offenders.
In this role you will:
1. Administer appropriate assessments to offenders, analyse assessment results, and record information.
2. Maintain your knowledge of contemporary offender rehabilitation research, practices, legislation, policies, and procedures related to offender management.
3. Participate in professional supervision activities and team meetings.
4. Provide consultancy services and accept referrals from other unit members including Psychologists, Education Officers, Activities Officers, and Custodial Correctional Officers as part of a multidisciplinary team.
5. Develop, implement, and deliver assessment, counselling, and welfare services to individuals.
6. Contribute to case planning and management activities, including preparing reports and case notes.
7. Ensure the maintenance, accuracy, and appropriateness of records for relevant authorities.
8. Advise on classification and review processes.
9. Maintain accurate and current records and data in the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).
10. Ensure safety, security, confidentiality of information, and property.
11. Provide timely information to sentencing and releasing authorities regarding assessments.
12. Develop relationships with external service providers to support offender community reintegration and uphold community safety standards.
13. Advise authorities on community re-integration and parole processes.
14. Counsel offenders on offending behaviors and their consequences.
15. Inform offenders about available services and community expectations.
16. Keep updated on services available for offenders.
