Your role at St John of God Murdoch In collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Nursing and Patient Care Assistant team to deliver patient centred care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This exciting new opportunity will allow you to show case your vast knowledge by supporting the Nurse Unit Manager and the staff of our St Bridget Clancy Surgical Ward. The role requires both managerial and advanced clinical nursing skills in areas of Colorectal, Upper GI, and General Surgery. As a key leader in the interdisciplinary team, you will ensure that the Unit meets the requirement for delivery of a patient centred service against key performance indicators and in accordance with the Mission and Values of SJGHC. This will be a permanent part-time position, working 35 hours per week or two part-time positions with the possible option of job share. The Position Maintain responsibility for the standards and quality of clinical practice within the Ward/Department. Develop and maintain excellent standards of care including ongoing evaluation and promotion of quality improvement initiatives. Understand and facilitate a team focused culture, which reflects service excellence including seeking and valuing caregivers’ contribution and engaging in clear and respectful communication. Foster a clinical team culture of interdisciplinary collaboration leading to improved patient outcomes. Demonstrate positive role modelling and leadership as outlined in the SJGHC Leadership Profile. Demonstrate both clinical and administrative leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills, change management ability and the development of a high performance team that exhibits a culture of professional accountability and quality service. Assist in the implementation of the Nursing & Midwifery Standards of Excellence at a Ward/Department level. Engage caregivers to ensure the efficient and effective management of all areas of responsibility. Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with accredited Medical Practitioners. Accept accountability for ensuring the service is compliant with relevant Acts, Agreements, Contracts, Licensing requirements, National Standards, Policies and Procedures. Encourage feedback on own performance. Implement caregiver/industrial relations policies in consultation with HR to ensure good caregiver relationships exist and that disciplinary and grievances are handled in accordance with Hospital policy. Actively participate in all relevant clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the Hospital. Assist the Nurse Manager to manage the departmental budget within established parameters and provides reports as required on budget results and variances, and makes recommendations for corrective action. Assist the Nurse Manager to maintain accountability for the ongoing financial management and monitoring of the service cost centres including productivity, activity and utilisation in line with agreed budgetary parameters and performance targets. Assist the Nurse Manager to participate in the implementation and maintenance of a workforce model/model of care that enables quality of care to be maintained as well as implementing appropriate levels of workforce skills. Assist the Nurse Manager to review payroll and personnel data in relation to service caregivers and acts on information as appropriate to manage absenteeism, agency utilisation and leave entitlements in order to meet established SJGHC and divisional KPI’s. Assist the Nurse Manager to ensure the cost-effective management of human resources, particularly in relation to “on-call”, over time and rostering practices are in accordance with award agreements and entitlements. You will have well-developed leadership and communication skills to build effective nursing, medical and interdisciplinary relationships. With sharp problem solving skills and well-developed negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution experience you will play a pivotal role in managing your dedicated team of professionals. To succeed you will hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with a minimum 5years experience in Colorectal, Upper GI and General Surgery.
