About you

What You'll Do
Cover a diverse range of stories -from breaking news to community features
Interview key stakeholders and uncover stories that matter
Work closely with the Editor and newsroom team to meet daily deadlines
Contribute to digital and social media platforms to expand audience reach
The ability to work under high pressure and be flexible with work hours
What We're Looking For
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing news cycles
Strong interviewing and communication skills
A sense of urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines
Passion for local news, with an interest in government reporting highly regarded
Existing digital production skills or a strong desire to upskill in social media and multimedia journalism
Essential to the role are strong writing and communication skills, a nose for sniffing out news, and a talent for hard work and team work. The successful applicant must be highly motivated and bring a positive attitude to the team. You will be required to cover a wide range of rounds, from hard news to community-driven stories, possibly even sport. You must be confident in taking photographs and filing news for our online platforms. The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in journalism or a similar field and will partake in tasks such as:
Gathering and writing original news stories for publication in print and online platforms
Developing positive relationships with key people and organisations
Breaking news stories and creating engaging content
Contributing to news planning meetings and liaising with the Editor regarding story development
Interviewing and photographing subjects confidently and professionally & representing the Company in a professional and courteous manner.
