Financial and Management Accountant – Position Description

About Heide
Heide Museum of Modern Art (Heide) is a public art museum and sculpture park located in Bulleen, Victoria. Heide offers an inspiring, educational and thought-provoking experience of modern and contemporary art, architecture, social history and gardens.
Heide presents 10 to 14 temporary exhibitions per year across five exhibition galleries with associated publications, learning and engagement programs. The exhibition program represents both modern and contemporary art, drawn from the Heide Collections and external sources, and while the focus is on Australian art, it also includes some international projects.
Heide is set on 6 hectares of land and includes five galleries spaces, a sculpture park, the Sidney Myer Education Centre, a retail store and a cafe.
Heide is led by the Executive Director and Artistic Director and supported by a leadership team which includes the Head Curator and the Development Director. This team designs and delivers Heide’s strategic 3–5-year plan, annual business plans and works closely with the Heide Board on strategic planning, risk management and organisational policy.

Primary focus of the position
Working in a team environment, collaborating across all departments of Heide and with key stakeholders, the role provides essential support for financial operations, accurate and timely reporting and analysis of results, and ongoing commercial insight to the organisation’s performance.
Duties
Financial and Management Accounting Deliverables
•Manage the accounting systems and financial records, ensuring accuracy of transactions
•Process payroll and superannuation (approx. 40 employees / FTE 26)
•Manage monthly reconciliations and departmental reporting
•Prepare financial reports to be lodged with government organisations and regulatory bodies
•Prepare monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
•Attend bi-monthly meetings of the Finance and Risk Management subcommittee of the Board
•Assist with annual budget preparation, forecast updates and actual vs budget/forecast analysis
•Assist with annual audit information requests
•Assist with statutory and compliance reporting
•Maintain financial controls underpinning the integrity of the financial information
Process Analysis and Performance Improvement
All functions and roles within Heide have an underlying element of continuous performance and operational improvement. The Financial and Management Accountant assists the organisation with analysis and insights to drive and implement process improvement, including:
•Analysing monthly budget vs actual financial results and KPIs to provide insight of financial and operational performance
•Preparing ad hoc financial analysis for the Executive Director and other members of the leadership team
•Providing forward-looking analysis of results to identify trends
•Supporting strategic projects to implement new systems
Key selection criteria
•Sound knowledge of Xero
•Experience with online payroll systems, point of sale and expense management systems (1)
•Demonstrated ability to produce management reports from accounting and other systems data
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•Commercial acumen, problem-solving ability and motivation to learn new skills
•Ability to work proactively and effectively across departments
(1)Experience with Heide’s key systems connected to Xero listed below will be looked upon favourably.
oEmployment Hero – payroll and HR
oLightspeed (Vend) – point of sale
oSalesforce – donations and grants
oDext – approval and coding of supplier invoices by departments
Qualifications, skills, knowledge & experience
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
•CPA or CA certification preferred
•3+ years of experience in accounting or related field
•Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations
•Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
•Strong attention to detail and accuracy
•An appreciation of social and cultural diversity and an ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
Other relevant information
•The successful applicant will be subject to a six-month probationary period
•Heide operates seven days a week throughout the year, accordingly after-hours work may be required in the context of our flexible work environment
•The successful applicant will be required to undergo security clearances performed by the Australian Federal Police, possess a current working with children clearance and undertake Heide Environment, Workplace and OH&S inductions
