Full-time, 12-month fixed-term opportunity Lead nationally recognised clinical research, influence health policy and practice, and shape the future of translational research at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre Base Salary $156,103 - $179,998 17% superannuation About the opportunity Join the University of Sydney as a Senior Research Fellow within the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre and play a leading role in advancing high-impact research that strengthens the University’s standing as a national and international leader in health and clinical research. This is an outstanding opportunity for an established researcher with a strong scholarly track record, national recognition in their field, and a passion for translating research into meaningful outcomes across healthcare, policy, and practice. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will lead strategically aligned research initiatives, build and sustain impactful collaborations across academia, industry, and government, and secure competitive research funding to support innovative programs of work. As a recognised subject matter expert, you will provide intellectual leadership, exercise independent judgement on complex matters, and contribute to shaping the Centre’s research direction and broader strategic priorities. Beyond research excellence, you will play an important leadership role within the academic community - mentoring researchers, contributing to governance and faculty initiatives, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture. Through your scholarship, partnerships, and translational research activities, you will help deliver outcomes that influence clinical practice, policy development, and future research innovation. Your key responsibilities will be to: Lead and deliver innovative, independent research that advances knowledge and practice within the discipline, while building a strong reputation for academic excellence. Drive research impact through high-quality publications, knowledge dissemination, scholarly engagement, and contributions to national and international academic forums. Secure and lead competitive research funding opportunities, including grants and other research income streams, to support strategic research initiatives. Foster research excellence by maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and integrity across all research activities and outputs. Provide leadership, mentoring, and academic guidance to early and mid-career researchers, supporting capability development and career progression. Build strategic partnerships across academia, industry, government, and the broader community, while contributing to governance, faculty initiatives, and a collaborative, high-performing culture. About you Completed PhD in a relevant discipline with a combination of training and experience. Demonstrated significant experience conducting original research and scholarly activity, with a strong track record of advancing knowledge within your discipline. Familiarity with Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) clinical trial results. Health research experience: ideally with population or other large datasets. Recognised at a national level for your research expertise, academic leadership, and influential contributions to your field. Proven experience supervising, mentoring, and developing researchers and academic staff across varying career stages. Extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in preparing research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions and grant applications. An established network of academic, industry, and professional partners and stakeholders, with the ability to leverage strategic relationships to enhance institutional impact and reputation. Sound understanding of the strategic priorities and emerging issues within the higher education and research sectors, with the ability to align research initiatives to broader organisational goals. Previous experience in undertaking or supporting research including systematic reviews, epidemiological studies, controlled trials or related projects, including collection, analysis and reporting of qualitative and quantitative research data. Proven working experience and skills in various analytical laboratory and molecular biology techniques (including (but not limited to) ELISA, tPCR, DNA/RNA isolation, spectrophotometry).
