About the Role
As a Senior Software Developer you'll lead software development projects, write optimised and secure code and provide technical leadership to a team of developers. You'll be responsible for ensuring the quality, functionality and reliability of software systems that support mission‑critical operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Support, maintain and enhance existing software capabilities
* Ensure software quality and security through testing and review
* Engage with stakeholders to clarify and develop user requirements
* Enhance automation capabilities and recommend new tools and structures
* Mentor team members and contribute to design reviews and agile processes
Technical Environment
* Java, Python, automation and deployment tools
* Secure software development practices
The Successful Candidate
You'll be an experienced software developer with strong leadership, coding and integration skills. You'll bring deep expertise in secure software development, automation and stakeholder engagement.
Essential Criteria Includes
* Programming/Software Development (PROG Level 5)
* System Software Administration (SYSP Level 5)
* Systems Integration and Build (SINT Level 5)
A degree in Computer Science or a related field is expected along with experience in Java, Python and automation tools.

Location
The role is based in Canberra (ACT), Brisbane (QLD) or Melbourne (VIC).
Contract terms
12 months from commencement date plus potential extensions.
SFIA level required
The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility.
Security Requirements
Must be an Australian Citizen with a minimum NV2 (Negative Vetting 2) security clearance; a TSPV (Top Secret Positive Vetting) is preferred. Candidates that do not hold a TSPV may be asked to undergo a clearance uplift. Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) are highly preferred.
