About us
Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre, providing care in major adult specialties to patients throughout Queensland and Australia, with the exception of obstetrics. We are one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres, providing Clinical Service Capability Framework (CSCF) Level 6 services, with approximately 1,033 beds and bed alternatives.
Set within the ED is a dedicated Clinical Toxicology Unit (CTU) that delivers care to poisoned patients including those with deliberate self-poisoning, unintentional exposures, recreational intoxication and envenomation.
There are approximately 2,000 toxicological presentations to the PAH ED annually and the CTU admits approximately 1,500 patients each year. The CTU is led by four clinical toxicologists who perform daily ward rounds as well as provide a virtual consult service to many facilities and a phone consultative service to the wider Brisbane area.
