Regulation Group
Regulation Group aims to support the Victorian Government in growing employment, material living standards and economic activity. We do this by supporting the Government's agenda to boost Victoria's productivity and providing advice including on improving how government agencies regulate, risk and insurance policy, and local government. We also provide strategic advice, based on Pricing for Value Guidelines, to support policy development on fees related to government services, including regulatory fees. We also provide advice on improving the safety of Victorian workplaces and support those affected by workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses.
Workplace Safety Team
The role will sit within a small independent team established as a secretariat to support an independent review relating to workplace safety policy reform. The role will report to a VPS6 manager accountable to an independent reviewer appointed by the Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC.
About the role
This is a 12-month fixed term contract which will be ideal for someone who is passionate about workplace safety and wants to be part of driving positive change for Victorian workers. In the role, you will be required to support policy, project management and stakeholder engagement and deliver outcomes within strict timeframes. Critical thinking, the ability to absorb information and provide advice to managers and executives, communicate effectively with government and external stakeholders and contribute to managing projects with multiple and competing priorities are key to success in this role.
**Key accountabilities**:
- Undertake policy analysis to support the development of a range of evidence-based policy products for a range of audiences and make recommendations on complex issues;
- Support project planning, management and coordination;
- Contribute to planning and delivery of stakeholder engagement, including identifying key stakeholders and their interests, advising the manager and executive accordingly, and supporting engagement by the independent reviewer on complex and sensitive policy issues with a range of government and non-government stakeholders;
- Demonstrate strong integrity including maintaining the independence of the review;
- Work independently and as part of a team; and
- Deliver timely work across multiple priorities and responsibilities.
About you
Policy development and analysis and reports
- Undertakes research, draws on evidence/data and applies analytical frameworks to complex issues to propose solutions;
- An eye for detail and ability to interpret and synthesise information;
- Demonstrated capacity to solve complex and ambiguous problems; and
- Experience preparing high quality verbal and written briefings and advice for a range of audiences; including the ability to convey complex issues persuasively and effectively in plain language.
Project management
- Manages delivery against various project milestones in a timely manner;
- Supports program governance, risks and issues artifacts and prepares timely reports to the manager and executive on implementation; and
- Monitors project goals and progress to identify and take steps to address risks and issues.
Influence
- Demonstrates ability to appreciate stakeholders' issues, and presents alternatives that represent an appreciation of multiple perspectives; and
- Identifies and engages strategically with key stakeholders.
Working collaboratively
- experience working within a team and supporting others to collaborate and support others to pursue common goals; and
- experience in providing timely and fit-for purpose advice and products for key stakeholders.
Experience and qualifications
- A degree level qualification in law, economics, public policy, occupational health and safety or related studies is desirable.
