We're looking for candidates who are familiar with JavaScript and modern web development technologies such as Node.js, React, Express, MongoDB, Mongoose, and API testing.

Position Highlights
Schedule: first-shift, full time (35 hours per week)
Location: Osborn Correctional Institution (Somers, CT)
NOTE: USD #1 follows a 12-month school calendar.
Training
Selected candidates are required to attend a fourteen (14) week training at the CT DOC Training Academy. Training includes classroom instruction and on-the-job practice, and is conducted at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development in Cheshire, CT.

Your Role
As a State School Teacher, you will be responsible for:
Prioritizing safety and security for staff, offenders, and visitors.
Teaching early intervention, elementary, secondary, special subject, and/or special education curricula.
Developing educational plans for individuals and groups.
Setting short- and long-term goals and evaluating student progress.
Participating in planning team meetings and case-review conferences to assess student behavior.
Holding conferences with parents or other concerned parties about student performance.
Collaborating with ancillary educational professionals.
Maintaining student records and producing reports.
Modeling positive teaching practices.
Qualifications

Experience working with a variety of disciplines throughout the day.
Working knowledge of classroom routines and disciplines.
Outstanding personal and interpersonal skills.
The ability to follow the class schedule as provided, even if it changes unexpectedly.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching a diverse group of people.
Experience working in a correctional institution setting.
Experience teaching groups with differing educational levels.
Experience teaching Web Development Fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap).
Experience teaching MERN Development (Node.js, React, Express, MongoDB, Mongoose, API testing).
One or more of the following State of CT teaching endorsements:
110 – Unique Subject Area – Computer Science
047 – Technology Education, PK-12
107 – External Diploma Program/Noncredit Mandated Programs
Special Requirements
Employment is conditional upon possession of a valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment. Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license.
