The role
As Site Surveillance Engineer – Major Projects, you will ensure construction activities on port infrastructure projects comply with design specifications, engineering standards, contractual obligations, and health, safety, and environmental requirements. This role provides technical oversight, verifies quality and progress, and resolves site issues to maintain project integrity. When site demands allow, you will also support design development, tender documentation, and broader project engineering tasks. This role will be based in Devonport working on the Quay Link Project (2 year fixed term)
Key Duties
· Conduct inspections of marine and civil works to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and codes.
· Enforce quality assurance procedures, witness testing, and confirm suitability of materials, equipment, and workmanship.
· Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations and escalate deviations.
· Promote and monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, contributing to a proactive safety culture.
· Interpret technical drawings and identify design deviations for resolution.
· Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders; maintain accurate logs and reports; contribute to progress reporting.
· Deliver small sub-projects within the wider program of works.
· Apply digital tools such as construction management software, GIS, and UAV technology to enhance surveillance efficiency.
About you
You are a detail-oriented engineer with a strong understanding of marine and civil construction practices. You thrive in dynamic site environments, ensuring quality and safety standards are met while maintaining effective communication with contractors and project teams. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills make you a trusted contributor to project success.
What you will have
Experience: Minimum 2 years in site supervision or construction of marine/port infrastructure projects; exposure to marine construction techniques such as dredging, reclamation, piling, reinforced concrete, earthworks, and pavements.
Skills: Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications; proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and project management tools; familiarity with GIS and UAV technology.
Knowledge: Robust understanding of Australian Standards, PIANC guidelines, and construction safety/environmental requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Marine Engineering; current driver’s licence; White Card; ability to obtain MSIC.
Desirable: Experience with dredging and marine geotechnical investigations; understanding of sustainable design and environmental impact assessment; familiarity with Australian port operations and logistics.
