Te Mania Angus is in the business of genetic improvement of cattle. Based at Hexham in South West Victoria their motto is "Breeding Better Beef". A position has become available for a specialist Beef Cattle Farmer to assist at Te Mania.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Report directly to the farm managers;
- Focus on connecting the practical day-to-day farming operations to modern and scientific processes and knowledge necessary to "Breed Better Beef";
- Plan, perform and supervise day-to-day farming operations with a focus on animal health, breeding and performance;
- Plan, coordinate, implement and oversee major technical projects including the "Net Feed Intake" project and the "Te Mania Angus Emissions Reduction Project" with Methane data capture
- Implementing, maintaining and evaluating records of Net Feed Intake program, including gathering data, record keeping, affiliated reporting, and delivery
- Herd health and wellbeing
- ability to identify and treat most common cow's health issues, record and evaluate herd health as a whole, and assist vets as necessary;
- Budgeting and capital expenditure requirements to ensure the various technical systems function to peak performance;
- At times, supervise and train other staff members;
- Work as part of a team, and at times assist other team members, e.g. livestock handling, pasture and fodder management, the breeding program, operate various farm machinery, infrastructure management and general farm work;
- Adhere to and monitor the Te Mania Angus operating procedures and guidelines, such as OH&S;, low stress stock handling and regenerative farming principle, with a focus on continuous improvement;
- Ability to understand and connect the farm's operations as a whole, and within the wider beef cattle industry; and
- Assist the managers in identifying issues and creating solutions with regards to day-to-day farm management.
45-50 hours per week, with some weekend/public holidays work; Salary: $120,000 + super; Accommodation may be available.
Applicants with less than five years of recent cattle farming experience need not apply. Formal and relevant qualifications, such as a Bachelor in Agriculture, is preferable.
