Based in Western Sydney, this waste treatment facility is a leading Australian company with a focus on the safe and reliable management and treatment of chemical waste.
Our client is currently recruiting a Chemist to start work as soon as possible. The main function of this role is to ensure the safe handling of chemical, trade and solid waste.
Duties will include:
* Sorting packaged waste as it comes in
* Testing unknown wastes (internally and externally) –flammability testing
* Decanting/disposing of chemical waste
* Unpacking boxes of packaged waste
* Packing lab chemicals for destruction
* Wearing PPE if required (full-face respirators, chemical suits, face shields, etc.)
This role would suit an outgoing person with excellent communication skills to liaise with truck drivers, production operators and others across the site to ensure safe sorting of chemicals into their classes and giving advice on their disposal.
As this role is not lab based - we are ideally looking for candidates who have experience in the chemical industry and are not be afraid to get their hands dirty. This will also involve manual handling of waste drums within a warehouse environment.
Skills & experience:
* Qualifications in Chemistry or related
* Experience & knowledge of safe chemical handling highly regarded
* Previous store work or warehousing experience
* Initiative and action oriented
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
