A Strategic, Hands-On Role in a Complex Payroll Environment
Strait Link is seeking an experienced payroll officer to join our finance team at Webb Dock, Port Melbourne for a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this critical role, you'll go beyond simple processing—you'll take ownership of complex payrolls across multiple EBAs and agreements, support our Payroll Manager, and contribute to continuous improvement across the function. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls across a highly complex EBA structure
Collaborate closely with the Payroll Manager to coordinate payroll operations
Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll legislation and stay informed of regulatory changes
Process and submit tax, superannuation, and other statutory obligations accurately and on time
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial processes within the broader finance team
Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and stakeholders in a professional manner
Support the development and maintenance of payroll procedures and documentation
Generate complex payroll reports (e.g., ABS submissions, GL reconciliations)
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and compliance
Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to all WHSE policies and procedures
Desired Skills and Experience
Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing, including interpreting multiple EBAs and awards
In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, including PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, workers compensation, and termination calculations
Skilled in using integrated HR/payroll systems; Preceda experience is highly regarded
Familiarity with finance processes and payroll reporting, including GL reconciliations and statutory reporting
Excellent time management, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and meeting deadlines
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, especially in Excel
Experience with payroll system implementation (e.g., Dayforce) is desirable
Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport across all levels of the business
Flexible and resilient with a structured yet agile approach to work
A collaborative team player willing to support colleagues and step in when needed
Strategic and solutions-focused, with a continuous improvement mindset
