About the Position
The Senior Statutory Planning Officer leads a dedicated team of planners, providing supervision, mentoring and performance guidance to support a motivated, high performing and inclusive work environment. In this role, you will deliver a customer focused and compliant statutory planning service, ensuring all assessments, reviews and determinations align with the planning framework and delegated authority. You'll manage a wide range of development applications, subdivisions and referrals, prepare high quality reports for Council and Development Assessment Panels, and represent the City at the State Administrative Tribunal, including preparing documentation and acting as an expert witness or advocate. The position also contributes to policy development, offers high level support to the Statutory Planning & Compliance Manager, and ensures excellent customer service, strong record keeping practices and consistent alignment with the City's values, legislation and policies.
About You
You are an experienced statutory planner with 5+ years' experience assessing and managing complex development applications and guiding others through the planning process. You have a proven ability to mentor and support a high performing team, providing coaching, feedback and technical guidance. Confident in interpreting and applying the Planning and Development Act 2005, Local Government Act 1995, and associated regulations, schemes and policies, you bring strong analytical and problem solving skills to complex issues. You communicate clearly in both writing and conversation, produce high quality reports, and can present technical information to a range of stakeholders. Highly organised and adaptable, you manage competing deadlines with ease and build strong relationships through your well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills. Above all, you embody professionalism, collaboration and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
