The role

Role

Amana Living is delivering an organisation-wide AI Strategy that applies artificial intelligence safely and responsibly to improve care, support our workforce, and lift the efficiency of our clinical and corporate systems. This position has been created to design, build and integrate AI-enabled solutions that bring that strategy to life, turning approved use cases into working, supportable products within a complex, regulated aged care environment. The AI Developer is a hands‐on, mid-level engineering role within the Technology & PMO function. Working closely with the General Manager Technology & PMO, enterprise architecture, the PMO and business owners, the role develops large language model (LLM) applications, middleware and integrations, and Microsoft Power Platform solutions with a strong emphasis on interoperability between Amana Living's clinical, corporate and IoT systems.

Key Duties & Core Responsibilities

  • Design, build and iterate AI‐enabled applications and assistants using large language models — including Anthropic's Claude through API integration, prompt engineering, retrieval‐augmented generation (RAG) and tool/function calling. Translate approved use cases from the AI Strategy into working, testable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain middleware, APIs and integration services that connect AI solutions with line‐of‐business applications. Build secure, reliable data flows between systems using REST/JSON, webhooks, message queues and integration platforms, with appropriate authentication, logging, error handling and monitoring.
  • Implement interoperability between Amana Living's clinical, corporate and IoT platforms, applying recognised standards (e.g. FHIR/HL7 in health contexts) and consistent data models. Map, transform and reconcile data across systems so information moves accurately and securely between agreed sources of truth.
  • Build and extend solutions on Microsoft Power Platform — Power Apps (canvas and model‐driven), Power Automate flows and Dataverse data models — and integrate them with AI services, middleware and Microsoft 365. Support the PMO digitisation toolset and other low‐code solutions with sound, supportable, well‐governed patterns.
  • Develop solutions in line with Amana Living's AI ethics principles and governance framework. Apply privacy‐by‐design, data minimisation, human‐in‐the‐loop controls and appropriate guardrails, and document model behaviour, prompts and decisions so solutions are transparent, auditable and safe for an aged care setting.
  • Test, deploy and support solutions across development and production environments using version control and structured release practices. Monitor performance, manage defects, and provide ongoing enhancement and support so solutions remain reliable and aligned to business needs.
  • Work closely with enterprise architecture, the PMO, vendors and business owners to gather requirements and shape designs. Produce clear technical documentation, solution designs and handover materials, and share knowledge to build internal AI and Power Platform capability.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience as a developer delivering software, integration or automation solutions, ideally in a complex or regulated multi‐site organisation.
  • Hands‐on experience building AI/LLM‐enabled solutions including working with APIs such as Anthropic's Claude using prompt engineering, retrieval‐augmented generation (RAG) and tool/function calling.
  • Strong middleware and integration skills, including REST/JSON APIs, webhooks and common integration patterns, with sound approaches to security, logging and error handling.
  • Practical experience with interoperability and data standards (e.g. FHIR/HL7 or similar), including data mapping and transformation across systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one mainstream programming language (e.g. Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript) and familiarity with version control and structured release practices.
  • Understanding of AI safety, privacy and responsible‐use principles, and the ability to build solutions that are transparent, auditable and secure.

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of current flu vaccinations per Amana Living policies.
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance (within 6‐month validity).
  • Successful completion of pre‐employment and reference checks.
  • Tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Relevant vendor certification (e.g. Microsoft Power Platform Developer, Azure AI, or equivalent).

Our Benefits

  • Competitive rates
  • Salary packaging benefits up to $18,550
  • School holidays childcare assistance
  • Health and wellbeing programs and more!
  • Ongoing training and development to keep your skills growing.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program.
