Acting General Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)
Our client, a well-established Women's Health Centre supporting women across the Illawarra, is seeking an experienced and values-driven Acting General Manager to lead the organisation during a maternity leave period from 18 May to 23 October 2026.
This is a rare opportunity for a strong operational and people leader to step into a respected feminist community organisation and ensure continuity of services, staff engagement and strategic progress during an important leadership period.
About the Organisation
Our client is a feminist, community-led health service providing specialised medical, therapeutic and wellbeing services for women across the Illawarra.
Operating across two sites in Warilla and North Wollongong, the organisation delivers multidisciplinary programs designed to support women's health, safety and wellbeing, particularly for those experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage. Its work is guided by feminist principles and a social model of health, with a strong commitment to advocacy, equity and community partnership.
About the Role
The Acting General Manager will provide operational leadership across both sites and work closely with the Board to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality services aligned with the organisation's strategic priorities.
* Leading day-to-day operations across both sites
* Driving implementation of the Strategic Plan
* Ensuring financial oversight, reporting and organisational sustainability
* Supporting staff engagement, retention and a positive workplace culture
* Maintaining strong relationships with government, community partners and the Board
* Representing the organisation externally and advocating for structural change to improve women's health outcomes
* Identifying opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability through partnerships and funding diversification
About You
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Public Health, Social or Community Services, Mental Health, Business or similar, or equivalent experience
* Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary or high-performing teams
* Demonstrated ability to build a positive, inclusive and accountable workplace culture
* Experience leading teams through organisational change
* Understanding of risk, quality and safeguarding responsibilities in community health or social services
* Senior service delivery or program management experience within public health, community services, mental health or trauma-informed settings
* Financial management capability including budget oversight and funding compliance
* Strong stakeholder engagement and political acumen, including working with government, boards and community organisations
* Demonstrated advocacy capability and understanding of feminist principles
* Experience working within the not-for-profit sector
