Overview
Primary objectiveProvide high level Work Health and Safety (WHS) compliance advice to support the Department of Children and Families and the Department of People, Sport, and Culture at corporate, business, and individual levels and to act as the first point of contact for WHS matters within both departments.
Context statementThe Risk, Audit and Work Health and Safety team provide shared services to both the Department of Children and Families and the Department of People, Sport, and Culture.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Provide expert advice and support on WHS matters to managers and staff to support the achievement of strategic outcomes within legislative frameworks.
* Work with management to build a WHS focused culture, ensure that practices meet statutory requirements and develop organisational and individual capability to effectively operate in a changing environment.
* Be a point of contact for managers and staff in the support and delivery of appropriate WHS issues.
* Develop and maintain management systems including the provision of WHS reports as required.
* Assist the agency in training and development in WHS programs and systems.
* Assist or lead investigations, in collaboration with managers and supervisors, in accordance with relevant legislation and Northern Territory Government policies.
* Travel to region or remote locations to undertake education, prevention, and response activities.
Selection criteria
Essential
* Proven ability to provide high level WHS advice, interpret and apply WHS legislation, policies and contemporary practices or the ability to quickly obtain.
* Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a diverse range of staff and managers, including advocacy, negotiation, report writing, emails and building client partnerships, while maintain confidentiality and professional discretion.
* Highly self-motivated and organised to deliver priorities, undertake initiatives, problem-solve, manage workloads, and meet deadlines, both independently and as part of a small team.
* Established skills in the use of the Microsoft Office range of software, including Excel to organise, manipulate and interpret data for analysis and reporting purposes.
Desirable
* Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety
* Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) Investigator training / Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
