What will be required of me?

Recruitment
Candidates who accept an employment offer are required to attend recruit training at the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) Hume Training Centre. By the end of it, you'll gain a qualification! To participate in the training program, you need to be at least 21 years old. Not quite there yet? It's the perfect time to start preparing.
The program includes 20 weeks of intensive training as a Fourth Class Firefighter, covering (but not limited to):
* Use of fire appliances and pumps, rescue equipment, radio networks, computer response systems
* Management of hazardous materials
* First aid administration
* Wildfire behaviour and suppression management
* Fire science and behaviour awareness
* Basics of building construction
* Various methods of water and electricity supply
* Workplace health and safety
