The opportunity
The City of Mandurah is an important provider of recreational and support opportunities for youth in Mandurah. Together with our community partners we aim to engage and support young people aged 11 – 25 through a diverse range of programs, activities and events, delivered at the Billy Dower Youth Centre and off site at other locations. Our Youth Development Team is looking for a passionate and skilled person to become part of our fantastic team to deliver programs, activities and events for young people.
To be successful in this role, you will:
* be committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for young people
* enjoy working in a team, be able to build strong relationships, be open to the opinions of others
* have a welcoming and engaging manner when dealing with young people, their guardians and our community
* be able to "think outside the box" and be flexible in the delivery of services to meet our community's, and young people's, evolving expectations
* have the ability to work outside of office hours on a regular basis.
* have progress towards, or have obtained, a qualification in youth work, social work or similar discipline
* a strong ability to relate to a diverse range of young people
* experience working with young people
* an understanding of Aboriginal culture and experience mentoring Aboriginal youth (Desirable)
* skills and experience in skate, music, art or other specific youth sub-cultures (Desirable)
* experience in social media planning within an organisational context (Desirable)
* administrative and program planning skills including the ability to navigate various software systems as a requirement of Local Government
* an approved Working with Children Card / Current National Police Clearance (less than 3 months).
* Current Drivers Licence.
