About The Opportunity

NSW Health Pathology is seeking a Permanent Full Time Staff Specialist to provide Chemical Pathology services and laboratory supervision across our services. This is a new position. The Staff Specialist position is primarily based at Wollongong Hospital and will be responsible for the provision of Chemical Pathology services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven area.

The Staff Specialist will also provide cover and supervision of laboratory activities at Prince of Wales Hospital and St George Hospital, their branch laboratories at Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital, Sutherland Hospital, and the branch laboratories of Wollongong Hospital at Shellharbour Hospital and Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital. The Staff Specialist will work at least one day per week at Prince of Wales or St George Hospital.

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Illawarra Shoalhaven and South Eastern Sydney areas, though the Staff Specialist will also provide services, support and laboratory supervision to other NSWHP Chemical Pathology sites in other parts of the State as needed.


What You'll Be Doing

Provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Chemical Pathology, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.


Selection Criteria

Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Chemical Pathology, and / or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and / or medical education and staff training.

Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication, interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.

Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.

Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise in the specialty of Chemical Pathology.
