Requirements
What does a day in the life look like?
* Architect and standardise Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices: Act as the technical lead for IaC standards, designing and implementing automated guardrails within GitLab pipelines to ensure all synthesized CloudFormation templates meet security, cost, and operational best practices before production.
* Manage and optimise the CI/CD Platform: In partnership with System Engineering, provide platform-level support for self-managed GitLab servers and Runner instances (EC2/Auto-scaling). You will architect and tune runner configurations (concurrency, executors, cleanup) to specifically handle the build demands of .NET and Ansible workloads.
* Build and maintain DevOps Automation: Apply process optimization and automation across all stages of the software delivery life cycle, including planning, building, testing, deploying, and monitoring.
* Drive Quality and Compliance: Implement automated testing and linting within pipelines to validate infrastructure code. Ensure code changes to DevOps systems are peer-reviewed and adhere to best practice coding standards.
* Champion DevOps Culture: Act as a champion for DevOps practices, building out patterns and templates and assisting developers in the adoption of these technologies.
* System Architecture & Design: Apply solution design skills and input into the architecture of the DevOps systems, researching and recommending the implementation of the latest technologies where feasible.
* Operational Support: Monitor the development process of DevOps systems for technical faults, solving problems as they arise. Complete configuration activities including clean-up, bug-fixing, and support for release activities.
* Collaboration: Collaborate with team members to maintain quality standards using the Agile/Scrum methodology. Assist the wider business in key events (e.g., major hot shows, ingress support) and help the delivery team with complex releases requiring high-level environment support.
About You

* Tertiary Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience Level: A minimum of 5+ years of DevOps or Platform Engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering solutions in a commercial environment.
* Architecture & Methodology: Excellent understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and modern solutions architecture (Microservices vs. Monolithic).
Core Technical Skills
* Cloud Expertise (AWS): Deep hands-on experience with AWS services, specifically EC2, Fargate, Lambda, IAM, Route 53, and Load Balancing. Must have a strong understanding of cloud networking and security best practices.
* Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in defining cloud infrastructure using AWS CDK and CloudFormation. Experience creating 'secure-by-design' templates and implementing automated compliance checks/guardrails on synthesized templates.
* Scripting & Programming: Strong coding skills for automation and tooling, with a specific focus on TypeScript, Python, and Linux Shell scripting (Bash).
* CI/CD & Version Control: Expert-level knowledge of Git and GitLab Administration (Self-Managed & SaaS). Proven experience architecting GitLab Runner configurations (executors, docker-machine, autoscaling) to support high-performance workloads.
DevOps & Platform Engineering
* Operating Systems: Solid understanding of both Linux and Windows Server fundamentals in a hybrid or cloud-native environment (especially within a .NET landscape).
* Containerization: Experience with container technologies like Docker and orchestration services such as AWS Fargate or Amazon ECS.
* Observability: Experience implementing monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Dynatrace, CloudWatch) to ensure system reliability and performance.
* Security (DevSecOps): A 'security-conscious' mindset, with experience integrating security controls into the CI/CD pipeline, managing IAM roles/policies effectively, and adhering to 'least privilege' principles.
Professional Attributes
* Problem Solving: Ability to balance industry best practices with innovative approaches to solve complex operational challenges.
