Alongside our global campuses, we collaborate with talented contractors and freelancers worldwide. While we support flexible, remote-friendly ways of working, this role focuses on Sydney or Melbourne to best support our teams and keep collaboration flowing.
This role is a 9‐month engagement, working up to 40 hours per week.
What You'd Be Doing in This Role
We're looking for a Senior Copywriter to help define and deliver Canva's brand voice inside our product.
You'll work closely with designers, product teams, marketers, and creative leads to shape in‐product messaging, product toolkits, landing pages, product narratives, hype reels, and editorial experiences.
This role requires a confident and capable creative writer who can effectively bridge Product, Marketing, and Brand.
You must be able to work hand‐in‐hand with designers to ideate and build on creative ideas, understand the constraints of writing in‐product messaging, and bring creativity to surfaces with very limited word count. Experience building product messaging frameworks that bring a brand's voice to life is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Write and refine in‐product copy across a wide range of surfaces, balancing clarity with personality
* Translate complex product functionality into simple, empowering language
* Create messaging frameworks for key launches, including Canva Create, Canva World Tour, and Droptober
* Develop scalable product toolkits that align Product, Marketing, and Brand
* Ensure consistency of tone, terminology, and positioning across all in‐product surfaces
* Collaborate with designers and creative leads from early ideation through to final execution
* Contribute to early‐stage conceptual thinking and creative ideation
* Support keynote messaging alignment, ensuring product language ladders up to broader brand narratives
* Maintain exceptional editorial quality across all work
* Guide stakeholders on copy best practice, clarity, and consistency
You'll be supported by a Creative Copy Lead, ensuring your writing is on brand and aligns with our broader brand thinking and direction.
You're Probably a Match If
* You have proven experience as a copywriter, either agency or client‐side (in‐house)
* You have a strong understanding of brand marketing channels and best practices
* You have strong familiarity with a spectrum of copy styles, from long‐form content, like landing pages and hype reel scripts, and editorial, to placements that require a succinct approach
* You have a passion for innovative, blue‐sky ideation and a strong desire to make impactful work that will help to build an iconic global brand
* You're a great team player. Able to work in a dynamic, multi‐skilled agile environment
* You're a master storyteller, able to sell the brand and its products to myriad demographics and personas with a consistent tone of voice
* You have attention to detail, style, and tone. You write with clarity and empathy and can write across a range of genres, styles, and tones
* You have a good grasp of English, sentence construction, and grammatical structure. And because less than 50% of our community is English‐speaking, you consider the needs of internationalisation in every word
* You bring others along for the ride. Set expectations with stakeholders, communicate openly across multiple teams, and collaborate with multiple creatives to get the job done
* You're not precious. Open to giving and receiving feedback and can clearly articulate how copy can be improved

The Brand in Product squad ensures Canva's brand shows up clearly, consistently, and creatively inside the product experience. From major global moments like Canva Create, Canva World Tour, and Droptober, to BAU product launches and toolkit rollouts, this team bridges Product, Marketing, and Brand. We craft the messaging frameworks, in‐product storytelling, editorial surfaces, and product toolkits that bring our brand voice to life where our users interact with us most: inside Canva.
This is a team that moves fast, cares deeply about craft, and believes that the best creative work happens when writers and designers are in the room together from day one.
