Role Overview
Career Medical Officer, working with a high level of professional independence while remaining accountable to the Clinical Director. Clinical direction, guidance, and supervision are provided by consultant psychiatrists and senior medical staff.
Shift Details
Permanent, full‐time night duty position based at Royal Hobart Hospital, rostered fortnightly from 22:30 pm to 08:30 am including handover times, up to 76 hours per fortnight.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and manage patients referred to Mental Health Services from the Emergency Department with remote guidance from the on‐call psychiatrist.
* Provide medical care to patients in inpatient mental health units, including the Short Stay Unit.
* Attend to mental health patients throughout the hospital needing specialist medical input.
* Respond promptly to clinical calls from Registered Nurses and other clinical staff.
* Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice.
* Ensure accurate prescribing, administration and documentation of medications and treatments.
* Participate actively in discharge planning and continuity of care.
* Maintain accurate, timely, comprehensive clinical documentation, including admissions, progress notes, decisions and discharge summaries.
* Promote collaborative working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
* Comply with all professional, ethical and legal obligations, including requirements under the Tasmanian Mental Health Act.
* Allocate additional duties as consistent with qualifications and clinical experience.
Qualifications & Eligibility
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Working with Children Registration where applicable.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $128,750 – $183,340 per annum, pro rata, plus 12% superannuation and salary packaging.
