Australian Target Systems (ATS) is Australia's most experienced live fire target systems provider, with a history dating back to the 1950s. Today, we are the managing contractor for the procurement, delivery, integration, and maintenance of live fire target systems to the Australian Defence Force.

About the Role
Due to internal promotion, ATS are seeking a full-time ongoing Software Engineer to join our team. This position will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and integration of our next generation range management solutions. You'll be working on complex systems that combine the principles of electronic, hardware and software engineering using military hardware, advanced mechanical systems, and third-party control technologies.
This office-based role located in Albury, offers hands on involvement across software, firmware, and electronics engineering, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver mission critical outcomes.
This role offers a generous salary of $115,000 - $135,000 (excluding super) depending on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day will include a mix of leadership, development, and client-facing tasks:
* Leading technical efforts and guiding team members toward successful project delivery.
* Planning and managing software engineering projects, including estimation and scheduling.
* Designing, developing, and integrating software and hardware systems.
* Conducting system design reviews, verification testing and providing lifecycle support.
* Preparing and managing technical documentation and compliance deliverables.
* Managing the editorial and publication process for various program plans and system specifications.
* Engaging with clients during installations, testing, and training.
* Driving process improvements and contributing to organisational standards.
About You
You're a proactive, technically skilled professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges. You'll bring:
* A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
* Eligibility to obtain a Security Clearance – Must be an Australian Citizen.
* A solid understanding of software engineering principles.
* Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle.
* Strong knowledge of programming languages, client-server architecture and communication protocols.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
* Experience with project management and agile methodologies is highly regarded.
* A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
* A passion for continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices.
