About Us
Our mission is to provide an unparalleled, participant-focused experience that supports independence, personal growth, and exceeds the expectations of participants, families, employees, and the broader community. We simply want to focus on delivering consistent quality care. With a dedicated focus on individuals who are non‐verbal and living with autism and intellectual disabilities, our personalized services span Newcastle, the Hunter, and Lake Macquarie areas, ensuring those we serve always receive the best possible support.
Our Core Values
* Participant‐Centred Care: We place each participant's unique needs, goals, and preferences at the heart of every decision we make.
* Quality: We set and uphold the highest standards, proactive problem‐solving, and a commitment to continual improvement.
* Reliability: We do what we say we will do, ensuring trust through consistency and accountability.
* Integrity: We act honestly, transparently, and respectfully—always doing what is ethically right.
* Innovation: We embrace ongoing learning and sustainable growth to adapt to new ideas and emerging technologies.
The Opportunity
We're seeking passionate Support Workers to provide safe, person‐centred, trauma‐informed support to children and young people across home and community settings. You'll uphold rights, dignity and inclusion, reduce and eliminate restrictive practices, and work closely with families, colleagues and external professionals. This is a casual role with regular hours available; we especially welcome availability for weekend day shifts and weekday sleepovers.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Person‐Centred Active Support that builds skills and independence; use preferred communication (AAC/visuals/gestures) and follow plans.
* Assist with daily living (personal care, hygiene, food preparation, domestic tasks), transport, community access and social connection.
* Facilitate participant participation in age and/or capacity‐appropriate activities, including in‐home support and community outings.
* Apply recovery‐focused, trauma‐informed approaches; promote hope, empowerment and agency.
* Implement authorised Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs); use any regulated restrictive practice only as a last resort, proportionately, for the shortest time, and only when authorised.
* Never use prohibited/high‐risk techniques (e.g., basket holds, prone/supine restraint, pin‐downs, takedowns, pressure to chest/joints, degrading/aversive practices).
* Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation (shift notes, medication records, incident reports); elevate risks and incidents promptly.
About You
You're reliable, empathetic and values‐driven, with strong communication (including non‐verbal/AAC) and teamwork skills. You have the empathy and ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, alongside strong problem‐solving and critical‐thinking skills. You possess active listening skills and provide non‐judgmental support, demonstrating the flexibility to work in different settings and with different participant cohorts.
You're committed to rights‐based, person‐centred practice and accurate documentation. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent is ideal.
Nice to have: Experience with autism/intellectual disability, non‐verbal communication, de‐escalation skills, basic tech/app troubleshooting, or CALD experience.
Physical Capabilities
* Critical Safety Boundary: This role does NOT permit catching, lifting, or bearing participant body weight during drops, play, or activities. Manual handling is limited to trained supportive guidance, escort, and restrictive practice techniques only.
* Operate safely in high‐risk environments including roads, traffic, car parks, and public areas while maintaining supervision of participants.
* Assist with personal care tasks including showering, dressing, toileting, and incontinence care, involving frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and working in wet areas.
* Sustain standing and walking for extended periods in community settings, on uneven surfaces, and in varied weather conditions.
* Move at varying speeds to redirect unsafe movement or manage the environment, including brisk walking or short‐burst jogging.
* Safely escort participants between locations, repeatedly enter and exit vehicles, and manage vehicle safety equipment.
* Perform trained restrictive holds and escort techniques using correct posture and positioning, including when participants resist or attempt to pull away. You must quickly adjust body position and posture to avoid bearing participant body weight and reduce the risk of personal injury.
* Work standard shifts exceeding 6 hours and sleepover shifts involving up to 10 hours of active support.
Mental Health & Emotional Resilience
* Manage emotionally challenging situations including participant distress, behaviours of concern, and complex family dynamics.
* Maintain professional boundaries while working in participants' homes and communities.
* Work independently for extended periods with limited direct supervision.
* Manage the emotional demands of trauma‐informed care and supporting participants with complex needs.
Safety, Compliance & Technology
* WHS: Apply the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), Codes of Practice and organisational policies; identify/report hazards and use required PPE.
* Vehicle & driving safety: Regular travel between client homes, community venues and organisational events within the service region. Staff must maintain a valid driver's licence and access to a reliable, roadworthy vehicle, holding current CTP and Comprehensive Car Insurance, as well as current Car Registration.
* Technology proficiency: Use phones/tablets/computers for rosters, communication, incident reporting and progress notes. When remote response is required, a work device is provided.
* Work availability: Demonstrate availability across a flexible 24/7 roster as required.
