Position Information
Engadine High School is a large, dynamic comprehensive high school in southern Sydney with an enrolment of 1,044 students, including 28 students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school maintains a strong culture of high expectations, academic achievement, and inclusive practice, supported by a safe and connected learning environment. With a focus on continuous improvement, Engadine High delivers a curriculum that is both rigorous and engaging, underpinned by evidence-informed teaching and a commitment to the development of the whole student. The school continues to prioritise literacy and numeracy attainment across Stages 4 and 5, with targeted professional learning and resourcing to support staff in embedding effective strategies in all KLAs. These efforts aim to improve foundational skills, close equity gaps, and ensure students are well prepared for Stage 6. A responsive and well-established Support Unit caters for students in two IM, one IO, and two Autism classes, ensuring inclusive access to quality learning.
The school also offers a wide range of extracurricular activities including sport, performance, social justice, and cross-curricular learning programs that enrich the educational experience for all students. Staff professional learning continues to be a strategic priority, particularly in building collaborative practice, using student data to inform teaching, and strengthening the implementation of high-impact pedagogies.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:
* Approval to teach Special Education with proven educational skills that demonstrate the ability to manage the demands of teaching and supporting students with a range of complex needs, including ASD and intellectual disabilities, in both the support and mainstream classrooms.
* Ability to lead and collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, parents, and external agencies, to ensure smooth transitions for students between educational stages.
* Strong capacity to lead and collaborate across the school to adapt learning programs and adjustments that meet the diverse needs of all students.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively lead, manage and support a diverse faculty of teachers.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
