Job Details
Austrade is seeking a Network Engineer to support and maintain its global ICT network, servicing over 60 locations across 50+ countries. The role is part of a high-performing infrastructure team delivering secure, resilient connectivity and driving Austrade's cloud-first transformation.
This position will combine operational maintenance with opportunities to deliver strategic infrastructure projects, focusing on Cisco, Fortinet, and Azure network environments. You will play a key role in maintaining uptime, strengthening network security, and supporting Austrade's shift toward a reduced on-premises footprint.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide Level 2 and 3 support across Austrade's global ICT network, including fault resolution, performance monitoring, and system health checks.
* Configure, maintain, and upgrade
Cisco
and
Fortinet
platforms, supporting data centre, SD-WAN, VPN, remote access, and Wi-Fi environments.
* Deliver operational enhancements and assist in project work to deploy new services and optimise existing network functions.
* Evaluate and implement new hardware, software, and network management processes in line with Austrade's digital strategy.
* Maintain system documentation, disaster recovery guides, and network standard operating procedures.
* Support compliance with ISM guidelines to uphold Maturity Level 2 security posture.
Essential Criteria
1. Demonstrated technical understanding of, and experience with, relevant tools and technologies (Fortinet, Cisco, Azure networking suite).
2. Proven operational experience and troubleshooting skills in global network communications deployments.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with management, users, vendors, and technical staff.
4. Demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet deadlines across concurrent BAU and project commitments.
5. Demonstrated cybersecurity awareness and experience implementing controls to mitigate vulnerabilities.
Desirable Criteria
* Cisco Certification
(e.g., CCNA) or equivalent experience.
* Degree
in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.
Working Arrangements
Hybrid arrangement — 3 days per week in Austrade's Canberra office, 2 days remote.
Standard 40-hour week, with occasional after-hours support as required for a global network environment.
