**About the role**:
Our **DES Vocational Counsellor** will provide short term support to participants with complex needs to increase job readiness.
**On a day to day basis you will be responsible for**:
- Meeting with DES team members and their participants to discuss barriers to employment such as emotional, mental or lifestyle issues.
- Working with participant's to overcome barriers to job readiness.
- Assisting Employment Consultants towards a deeper understanding of their participants concerns and reframing challenges.
- Provide multiple vocational counselling support sessions to all referred participants to overcome challenge or issues preparing for or maintain ongoing work.
- Maintaining positive relationships with all Afford staff, DES participants and their respective employers, representatives of DSS, DHS and other Stakeholders.
**Essential requirements**:
- Tertiary qualification in counselling, social work or psychology - Highly preferred
- Experience working withing a short term solution based counselling framework
- Possession of current full NSW drivers licence
- Working with Children Check
- NDIS Worker Screening check
**About you**:
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong record keeping and documentation skills
- Available 4 days per week (60 hours per fortnight)
- Ideally, experienced counsellor with experience working in the disability sector
