About Metro Trains Sydney (MTS)

MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational. We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first. We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney. With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.

About the Role

We have exceptional opportunities for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who have completed their School Certificate or may be completing or have completed the Higher School Certificate and are interested in undertaking an Electrotechnology Apprenticeship commencing in early 2026.

These roles will support work in the Response & Engineering Monitoring Team, contributing to the maintenance and repair of MTS assets across the network—from Tallawong to Sydenham and extending to Bankstown following the opening of the Southwest section.

On the job training and an approved course of formal training though a registered training provider such as TAFE will be mandatory to complete the requirements of the apprenticeship.

Over the 4-year apprenticeship, you will spend time working out of both our Tallawong and Sydenham depots as well as with other organisations to gain experience in all aspects of the trade.

Key Responsibilities

- Execute repairs and servicing as required to support the ongoing availability and reliability of MTS assets.
- Observe and demonstrate competency of a maintenance and repair skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
- Learn requirements to maintain workshop equipment and keep it in good repair.
- Completing a qualification of Certificate III in Electrotechnology - Electrician
- Comply with responsibilities relating to the terms of the Training Contract as an Apprentice
- Maintain a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned.
- Contribute to recommendations in relation to current or imminent engineering and maintenance issues.
- Contribute to site inspections and risk assessments.
- Contribute to maintenance investigations and support the completion of any recommendations.
- Learn and understand the importance of Workplace Health, Safety & Environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You may be a recent HSC graduate or will be commencing Year 11 and/or Year 12 in 2026. You may have completed the School Certificate, be currently completing the Higher School Certificate, have recently graduated or are in the 1st or 2nd year of your Electrotechnology apprenticeship.

You have a keen interest in Electrotechnology and have the aptitude, skills and motivation to commence and complete a Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician.

You will also have a positive attitude and willingness to learn with the ability to listen and follow instructions as per supervisor and company requirements. You also have excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with good time management abilities and enjoy completing work to a high standard.
