About the role
We're seeking a Maintenance Engineer to deliver engineering assurance across our Victorian road network, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability in maintenance operations. This hands-on role sits within our Asset Performance business unit and supports our Commercial section, reporting to the Maintenance Manager (Vic).
You'll play a critical part in assuring the performance of assets, providing engineering oversight across road infrastructure systems, and collaborating with internal teams and external contractors. You'll lead maintenance engineering governance, reviews, and perform risk assessments to determine decisions that contribute to the continuous improvement of our roads and customer safety.

Day-to-day, you will:
Manage and engage with external design consultants for investigations, audits, testing, and technical assurance activitiesConduct engineering investigations and provide technical recommendations and sign off on maintenance works.Review asset and system performance, implement proactive condition assessmentsUndertake root cause analysis of equipment malfunctions and identify system performance improvement opportunitiesOversee technical documentation, including O&M manuals, COMS and engineering records, ensuring accuracy and compliance to standards.Provide technical approval for capex and major maintenance handoversIdentify end-of-life assets and guide asset upgrade suggestions aligned with asset strategyDeliver onsite and technical assurance activities across contracted maintenance providers, recording outcomes in asset database system Maintain Asset Management Plans and contribute to Forward Works ProgramsReview IR&M contractor job plans and ensure alignment with concession requirementsLead engineering risk management and promote safety-first cultureEngage external contractors and Transurban's engineering and strategy teams to embed best practiceAttend night-time maintenance closures as required
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
A degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering or relevant trade qualification, with 5+ years' experience in road or utilities environmentsStrong engineering management background in complex maintenance settingsHigh-level understanding of HSE and asset risk principles in a contracted environmentAdvanced stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence outcomes in a proactive mannerClear written and verbal communication with technical and strategic acumenFamiliarity with civil, mechanical, or electrical infrastructure and major project environmentsFinancial acumen and budgetingRPEV registration completed or underway
