This APS6 Finance Officer role exists to support the effective flow of payments and financial transactions across a complex federal government environment. The position forms part of a central finance operations team that underpins service delivery both in Australia and across an overseas network.
Based in Canberra, this ongoing role suits someone who enjoys working through detail, resolving issues, and supporting others in a structured but collaborative APS setting. A salary of $100,000 to $115,000 plus superannuation is on offer. NV1 or NV2 clearance is mandatory.
Why this role exists
The finance operations function acts as the engine room of the department. It ensures invoices are processed accurately, contracts are set up correctly, and payments flow on time. This APS6 role provides both hands on technical contribution and leadership within the accounts payable and purchase to payment space.
What you will be working on
* Managing end to end invoice processing and payment activities
• Reviewing contract documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Maintaining contracts and purchase orders in SAP
• Supporting monthly reporting and reconciliations
• Engaging with internal business areas and external suppliers to resolve issues
• Supervising and supporting junior staff within accounts payable
• Contributing ideas to improve processes and service delivery
What success looks like
You build trust with stakeholders through clear communication and follow through. Transactions are accurate and timely. Junior staff are supported and workloads are well managed. You develop a solid understanding of APS financial frameworks and apply sound judgement when issues arise.
Experience and skills required
* Proven ability to work accurately in high volume or process driven environments
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands
• Confidence working with stakeholders at different levels
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
• SAP experience is desirable, training is available
• Financial literacy or accounting exposure is beneficial but not required
