Job Description
Our valued client, Chaa Latte, is a specialty cafe located in Mount Eliza, Victoria, that focuses on handcrafted beverages, including premium lattes, chocolate drinks, and light cafe fare. The business emphasises quality ingredients, creative drink presentations, and a welcoming customer experience, catering to cafe enthusiasts who enjoy artisanal drinks in a friendly and dynamic environment. Chaa Latte is currently seeking a Chef to join their cafe team.
The Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality food and specialty beverages. This role involves creating and refining menu items, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, managing kitchen operations, and ensuring consistent product quality. The ideal candidate combines culinary expertise with creativity and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
The annual salary for the Chef position is $77,000 to $78,000. Duties include:
* Produce a range of hot and cold beverages and associated light cafe fare according to recipes and standard specifications for quality and consistency.
* Assist in creating, testing, and improving drink and food recipes to ensure unique offerings and consistent taste that align with brand identity.
* Regularly check ingredients and finished products for flavour, presentation, portion control, and compliance with business standards.
* Coordinate preparation of ingredients, beverages, and foods, ensuring workflow efficiency and proper timing of food service.
* Implement food safety standards and hygiene practices in the kitchen and service areas, including safe handling, storage, and sanitation.
* Monitor stock levels of ingredients, coffee beans, dairy products, and kitchen supplies; place orders and manage deliveries to maintain optimal inventory.
* Coach junior Cooks, Baristas, or Kitchen Assistants in proper preparation, cooking techniques, equipment use, and presentation standards.
* Oversee cleaning and maintenance schedules for kitchen and beverage equipment such as espresso machines, blenders, and refrigeration units.
* Contribute to menu design by suggesting items, estimating ingredient costs, and helping establish pricing based on cost of goods and profitability.
* Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure timely delivery of drinks and food, resolve customer requests, and assist during peak business hours.
* Ensure compliance with relevant workplace health and safety laws and internal policies.
* Maintain records of kitchen performance, wastage, production quantities, and any quality issues; report management insights to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
* Must have two (2) years of experience in a similar setting.
* Should possess a Certificate III, IV, and Diploma in the relevant field.
