Who we are:
At Sherwin‑Williams, we are a global leader in paints, coatings, and advanced material solutions. Our R&D teams play a vital role in shaping the future of our products—driving innovation, improving performance, and ensuring the highest standards of quality for our customers across the world. When you join Sherwin‑Williams, you become part of a company committed to excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
What we're looking for:
We’re seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented R&D Technician to support the development and testing of our advanced materials, coatings technologies, and other products brought to market. The ideal candidate is someone who learns quickly, works independently after training, and brings a strong sense of ownership to spray booth processes, equipment operation, and data accuracy. You will collaborate closely with our product, marketing, technical and service tech rep teams to support experiments, material evaluations, thorough reporting and development initiatives across our R&D programs.
What you'll be doing:
* Perform hands-on application testing of products, predominantly painting systems.
* Conducting measurements and analytical evaluations with accuracy, using solid numeracy skills to interpret results.
* Support technical and product teams in R+D experiments, material characterisation, and product evaluation activities.
* Maintain accurate and complete documentation, ensuring all test results, procedures, and observations are recorded with precision.
* Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on booth equipment to support reliability and continuity of testing.
* Uphold safety and housekeeping standards, ensuring the spray booth remains organised, compliant, and safe at all times.
You'll fit right in, if you're:
Hands‑on and technically minded, ideally with experience in automotive spray painting, coatings application, or a similar trade experience.
Comfortable working with tools, equipment, and technical processes—you enjoy solving practical problems and understanding how things work.
Curious and eager to learn, especially about coating technologies, application methods, and lab‑based testing.
Detail‑oriented, with a commitment to accuracy, safety, and quality in everything you do.
Self‑motivated and reliable, able to work independently once trained while still collaborating well with engineers and scientists.
Looking for a genuine career pathway, with a clear 2‑year development plan to progress you into a Technical Representative role supporting customers and our sales teams.
Someone who takes pride in workmanship, whether that’s preparing surfaces, applying coatings, or ensuring consistent, repeatable results.
If this sounds like you, and you're ready to take on the challenge, please don't hesitate to apply!
