Plant Operator – Roller

Mackay Regional Council is on the lookout for skilled and enthusiastic Roller Plant Operator to join our Civil Operations team – Northern Region. In this role you will be responsible for operating a range of mechanical plant and vehicles, including trucks and ride-on equipment, to support the maintenance and construction of roads, drainage, and other civil infrastructure. You’ll work under limited supervision and be part of a team that values safety, service excellence, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

* Operate ride-on equipment and light/medium mechanical plant competently.
Drive rigid motor vehicles (GVM 22.5t) and vehicle/trailer combinations (GCM
* 42.5t).
* Perform hands-on labouring tasks in road and drainage construction and maintenance.
* Conduct daily maintenance and pre-start checks on assigned plant.
* Collaborate with mechanical service personnel for repairs and upkeep.
* Implement traffic management and ensure safe worksite operations.
* Deliver high-level client service to internal and external stakeholders.
* Complete paperwork accurately and promptly.
* Perform basic numerical calculations relevant to the role.
* Share knowledge and provide on-the-job training to colleagues.
* Uphold environmental best practices and WH&S standards.
* Participate in ongoing training and skill development.

Essential Qualifications

* General Construction Safety “White” Card.
* QLD Manual Car ‘C’ Class Open Driver’s Licence (or interstate equivalent).
* QLD Heavy Rigid Truck ‘HR’ Class Licence (or interstate equivalent).
* Certificate of Competency for road construction plant/equipment (e.g. skid steer loader, roller, loader, backhoe).
* Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) qualification or ability to obtain within 12months.

Desirable Qualifications

* Certificate III in Civil Construction.

Essential Experience

* Proven experience driving trucks in varied road conditions.
* Skilled in operating road construction plant.
* Experience in road and drainage infrastructure construction/maintenance.

Desirable Experience

* Experience in concrete work.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

* Adaptability to changing work environments with a positive attitude.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
* Strong plant operation and truck driving competency.
* Effective verbal and written communication.
* Teamwork and client service orientation.
* Knowledge of preventative machinery maintenance.
* Understanding of WH&S regulations in the construction industry.
* Familiarity with road and drainage construction techniques.
* Knowledge of mechanical plant operation and maintenance.
