Overview
An exciting opportunity is available within the Delivery Services Branch, eHealth Queensland for a Principal Technical Specialist to provide expertise and undertake specialised project activities to enable the successful delivery of the Microsoft 365 Domain Privacy and Data Uplift Project, a critical component of Queensland Health's Microsoft CoPilot implementation plan.
The role:
Reporting to the Microsoft 365 Domain Privacy and Data Uplift Project Manager, the Principal Technical Specialist is responsible for the back-end Microsoft 365 platform configuration and data foundations that enable the safe, secure, and scalable use of Microsoft 365 Copilot across Queensland Health.
This role focuses on SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams data storage, tenant-level configuration, and Purview integration, ensuring information is structured, governed, and discoverable only where appropriate. The role plays a critical part in supporting ongoing transition from implicit access patterns to explicit, policy-driven data governance.
Responsibilities
* Assess and remediate backend data risks that affect Copilot behaviour, including oversharing, inactive sites, legacy content, and Redundant, Obsolete, and Trivial (ROT) data.
* Design and implement tenant-level configuration changes to support Restricted Content Discovery (RCD), controlled Copilot grounding (if implemented), and safe AI access patterns.
* Establish and prepare for uplift in SharePoint and OneDrive information architecture patterns (sites, libraries, permissions, lifecycle controls) aligned to enterprise governance.
* Configure and operationalise Microsoft Purview capabilities (sensitivity labels, retention, Data Loss Prevention) in collaboration with Cyber Security and Information Governance stakeholders.
* Provide authoritative technical advice to the Solution Architect and governance forums on platform readiness, constraints, and implementation sequencing.

To be successful in this role you will need a high level of understanding in Enterprise Solutions Domains as well as a demonstrated ability in designing, configuring and documenting enterprise systems within best practice IM/ICT design and delivery frameworks.
To be successful in this role you will:
* Deep technical expertise in Microsoft 365 tenant administration, including SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Entra ID.
* Strong experience with Microsoft Purview (Information Protection, Data Loss Prevention, Records Management, eDiscovery).
* Proven capability in identifying and remediating oversharing, legacy permissions, and data sprawl in large enterprises.
* Experience working in federated or multi-tenant-like environments with varying local governance maturity.
* Strong understanding of how Copilot grounds responses in Microsoft Graph data and how backend controls influence AI behaviour.
* Ability to translate technical risk into clear advice for senior governance and assurance bodies.
* Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills and a proven ability to work in a team environment developing effective working relationships with team members
* Have effective consultation, facilitation, written and oral communication skills for use in a complex program/project environment.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate, at business and technical levels, complex architectural concepts, drivers and issues, in both written and verbal formats.
* Demonstrated understanding of how to integrate information technology with business processes and people
