Piber Plastics Australia Pty Ltd is a leading manufacturer based in Derrimut, VIC, dedicated to producing high-quality products through innovative methods and craftsmanship. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Toolmaker to join our manufacturing team.
Employment Type: Full time (38 hours per week)
Responsibilities
Testing newly fabricated or repaired tools to ensure optimal performance during trial runs, and adjusting as necessary to correct dimensional errors or structural concerns.
Diagnosing faults in worn or damaged mould tools, dismantling them for inspection, and performing necessary repairs or alterations to restore functionality.
Applying surface coatings or protective finishes to metal components to prevent corrosion and enhance tool life.
Constructing jigs, fixtures, templates, and inspection gauges to support tool setup, calibration, and maintenance workflows.
Pouring and layering composite or casting materials (e.g., resins or fibreglass) into moulds or over forms when creating specialised models or repair components.
Operating manual and CNC machinery to mill, turn, drill, and grind precision components for injection moulding and blow moulding tools and associated equipment.
Collaborating with design and production teams to improve tool design and ensure alignment with manufacturing goals.
Maintaining accurate records of tool usage, modifications, and preventive maintenance routines.
Ensuring adherence to strict quality control standards and maintaining a safe, clean working environment.
Interpreting technical drawings, CAD designs, and specifications to determine the dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing methods required for new or modified tools.
Using measuring instruments such as micrometers, callipers, and gauges to mark out dimensions and prepare metal or alloy stock for machining.
Assembling components and polishing surfaces to meet high-tolerance finish requirements suitable for plastic forming applications.
Requirements & Skills
Must at least 1 year of relevant experience as a Toolmaker or in precision metalwork.
AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Toolmaking Trade (including two years of on-the-job training) or AQF Certificate IV in a relevant field.
Strong understanding of technical drawings and precision measuring tools.
Proficiency in operating both conventional and CNC machines.
Experience in mould tool assembly, testing, and maintenance is highly desirable.

Salary
Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum
