We’re proud of brands like COLORBOND steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.The OpportunityOur Port Kembla-Springhill Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Reliability Engineer in our Coupled Pickled Cold Mill (CPCM) team based in Port Kembla. As part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla delivering a variety of products, innovative solutions, and services to our export and domestic customers.The CPCM is a highly automated processing line that uses a blend of old and new technology. It is towards the end of the steel-making process, primarily reducing strip thickness in preparation for downstream steel coating processes. As the Reliability Engineer, you will promote continuous improvement, provide strategic problem-solving, and plan for the Exit/Mill equipment, ensuring value and compliance for the CPCM.Whether you’re local to the Illawarra, looking to avoid Sydney traffic, or considering a move interstate, BlueScope offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant coastal city with a well-established culture that drives high employee retention rates—a workplace where your professional journey is both rewarding and exciting.What Will You Do?Manage and develop maintenance strategies for the overall mechanical plant, driving continuous improvement and reliability of mechanical assets.Ensure safety standards are never compromised, making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified.Provide technical support, investigate, fault find, and solve long-term/systemic equipment issues to eliminate potential causes and develop corrective actions.Provide strategic engineering leadership in the operation and maintenance of high-precision mechanical and mechanized equipment.Ensure alignment of maintenance activities to support the business, including budget management and maintaining effective and compliant maintenance documentation.Plan, coordinate, and execute major and minor projects, including multi-trade discipline works for equipment improvements.Coach and mentor asset team members by identifying and closing technical knowledge gaps.More About YouAs an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, you adapt quickly and have an eagerness to learn. You will bring:A diploma or mechanical/mechatronic engineering degree, or a willingness to complete a diploma.Demonstrated capabilities in developing and implementing mechanical equipment strategies.A commitment to safety and wellbeing.Experience in a similar industry within maintenance, focusing on defect elimination and equipment reliability.Knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance, KT, RCA, Defect Elimination, Lean (5S) methodologies.Good written and verbal communication skills.Experience with fault finding on heavy industrial mechanical equipment.Why BlueScopeAt BlueScope, we create strength for the future through our people, products, and solutions.
