High profile pumped hydro electric project
- Opportunity to take ownership of the project end to end
- THe project will be part of a larger energy hub
**Engineering Manager (Electromechanical package - OEM) - Pumped Hydro**
***
Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia | Full-time
**About Us**:
The Capricornia Energy Hub team is developing an energy hub, including a pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES) scheme, wind farm and solar farm. The project is advancing rapidly towards the Engineering Procurement and Construct stage and is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CiP), a global leader in renewable energy investments. The project will be operated and maintained by a leading QLD energy business.
This is a great opportunity to join an exciting venture with the Capricornia Energy Hub team, develop, construct and commission a large-scale pumped-hydro-electric project. The Capricornia Energy Hub team is based in Brisbane with the project located on Widi Country, approximately 80km west of Mackay in the Eungella Hinterland.
**The Project**:
***
The Capricornia PHES will provide large-scale dispatchable power in Central Queensland.
The long-duration energy storage combined with grid strength and stability services will be key in the transition of the electric market to intermittent renewable energy generation, keeping the grid stable and wholesale electricity prices low.
The project, currently in the Feasibility Study stage of development will provide 750MW of generation, 12,000MWh of storage and is due to be operational in 2029.
**The Role**:
***
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Engineering Manager/Senior Engineer with experience in Pumped Hydroelectric Energy Storage to be a part of the team developing and delivering this exciting large scale energy project.
As the Engineering Manager responsible for the electromechanical package design and development, you'll play a pivotal role in coordinating the design and delivery of our powerhouse, turbine, and connection works. Working closely with our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and the Engineering Manager - Civil and our design consultants, you'll be a key part of the team ensuring the seamless development, construction and commissioning of a large-scale, grid-connected pumped hydro-electric system in central Queensland. This is a great opportunity for the right person to significantly influence the design and delivery of a nation building piece of energy infrastructure.
Reporting to the Project Director, you'll collaborate with the wider development team to facilitate smooth progress through development to construction, commissioning and operation.
**Responsibilities**:
- Lead the coordination and integration of the OEM workstream into the overall reference design to develop and deliver a robust Pumped Hydro-Electric Energy System, compliant with industry standards and regulations.
- Supervise the powerhouse turbine OEM, and collaborate with 3rd party reference design teams and grid connection consultants, ensuring alignment with project objectives and technical specifications.
- Facilitate technical negotiations and manage stakeholder relationships to drive successful project outcomes across multiple workstreams.
- Identify, analyse, and resolve technical challenges related to Powerhouse design and connection, providing innovative solutions to ensure project success.
- Provide expert project management support, offering technical guidance and engineering expertise to optimise equipment reliability, process efficiency, and overall project performance.
- Provide technical input into the negotiation of the OEM supply and install contract.
- Provide technical input into the negotiation of the EPC contract for the finalisation of the design, construction and commissioning of the project.
- Provide technical input into the operation and maintenance contract.
- Act as the owner’s representative for the supply and install of the OEM package during construction, connection and commissioning of the project.
**You**:
- Possess a minimum of 15 years' leadership experience in engineering roles, specialising in the electromechanical components of large-scale energy system design and implementation, with a particular focus on Pumped Hydroelectric Energy Storage or other large synchronous turbine generation, and grid integration.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and collaborate with OEMs and Design engineers, driving technical excellence and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Hold tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical disciplines, with a robust understanding of synchronous energy generation technologies and industry best practices.
