If you're a dentist looking for a role where your work genuinely matters - to your patients, your team, and your own sense of purpose - you might have just found it.
We're based in Launceston, in the heart of Northern Tasmania, which means you already know the usual pitch: the food is excellent, the wine is award‑winning, the culture is vibrant, and the scenery is the kind of thing you probably already daydream about. It's all true, and we won't pretend otherwise. But you've heard that story a hundred times, and there's so much more to our story.
What really sets this opportunity apart is the connection you'll build here. At The Dental Surgery, Newstead, you won't just be providing dental treatment. You'll be forming long‑term relationships with patients who genuinely value continuity and trust. People know their clinicians by name, they return because they feel cared for, and the work you'll do has a visible, lasting impact on their lives.
You'll also be joining a team that genuinely supports your development. Our team of experienced clinicians back each other, share knowledge freely, and stay connected through an active study club and a culture of collaboration. Ongoing development isn't something you're left to figure out alone, it's built into how we operate.
Add in a four‑day week (or less if that's the right balance for you), short commutes, and the Tamar Valley waiting for you when you clock off, and you get a role that offers something rare; meaningful dentistry, a supportive team, and a lifestyle that finally feels balanced.
If that sounds like the kind of change you've been craving, we'd love to meet you.

The Vision
At The Dental Surgery, Newstead, our vision is simple: a caring partnership in dental health enabled by an exceptional team and work environment.
The Practice
The Dental Surgery, Newstead is celebrating 50 years of care in 2026. Today our practice operates across four modern clinical rooms equipped with A‑dec 500 chairs and phosphor plate radiography. Our clinicians are supported by a wide range of high‑quality tools and equipment, including an intraoral scanner, electric and air-driven motors for our many new NSK handpieces, EMS ultrasonic scalers, NSK Surgic Pro, and multiple endodontic systems. Our on-site laboratory allows us to produce special trays, bleach trays, retainers, mouthguards, and study models, making treatment planning and case management smooth and efficient.
We're proud to be independently recognised as a Tasmanian Employer of Choice, and to have been awarded Small Employer of the Year at the Tasmanian Training Awards in both 2022 and a reflection of our commitment to creating an exceptional workplace and supporting ongoing learning for all our team.
The Team
Our team, along with our patient base, has grown organically over the past 15 years since Dr Chris Sanzaro took ownership of the Practice in 2011.
Our team of clinicians have a wide-range of experience and key areas of interest, which has fostered a strong team-based approach with guidance and assistance for clinical mentoring, complex case planning, treatment, and follow-up care. Multiple members of our clinical team work part-time in private practice, and part-time in public practice including the education and supervision of dental students, adding to the wealth of knowledge within our team.
Our growing team of qualified dental assistants support the Practice to operate efficiently and effectively, ensuring that patients feel welcomed and comfortable. We support a positive team culture and strong ergonomic principles by ensuring a rotational roster throughout the Practice, which means our clinicians get to know everyone in our team. Both clinicians and dental assistants are competently supported by our experienced Practice Manager, Clinical Coordinator, and Duty Manager.
