Responsibilities
The role involves creating and integrating high-quality 3D piping system models and 2D production outputs to enable manufacturing of complex mechanical and piping systems for the Hunter Class Frigates.
- Officer Level (Entry Level – TAFE Graduate or less than 2 year experience)
- Develop skills in creating piping layouts and isometric drawings under supervision.
- Assist with system integration and spatial coordination in a 3D design environment.
- Support the team in problem investigations and propose practical solutions.
- Build technical competence by engaging with experienced designers and staying up to date with standards and technologies.
- Intermediate Level (between 2 and 10 years of experience)
- Produce accurate piping system models, fabrication drawings, and installation details in accordance with engineering and quality standards.
- Ensure all deliverables meet project requirements for safety, accuracy, and constructability.
- Collaborate with engineers, production, and other design disciplines to resolve integration challenges.
- Contribute to design reviews, identify improvements, and apply lessons learned to future work.
About You
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you’ll have:
- Demonstrated experience in the design and integration of piping systems in a 3D CAD environment.
- Proven ability to produce fabrication, spool, and installation drawings for mechanical/piping systems.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Siemens NX, REVIT, or similar).
- Diploma of Engineering (Technical) or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Strong communication skills to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (e.g. design registers, reporting).
- Desirable: Trade background or piping design experience in shipbuilding, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
