Overview
Community Mental Health Professional (Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Counsellor Lvl 1-2, Registered Nurse, Psychologist) – Whole of Family/Out of Home Care (Identified) – Perm FT with South Western Sydney Local Health District.
Responsibilities
- Deliver culturally informed, recovery-oriented care to Aboriginal consumers and their families.
- Provide mental health assessments and therapeutic support to children and young people in out-of-home care.
- Support families at risk of breakdown due to child protection matters secondary to mental health, trauma, or substance use.
- Advocate for Aboriginal-led approaches to care and contribute to service design.
- Build strong relationships with families, Elders, and partner agencies.
- Engage in community education, outreach, and health promotion.
Essential Qualifications and Registration
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as one of the following: Registered Nurse; Occupational Therapist; Registered Psychologist.
- Or a Bachelor degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Or a Bachelor degree in Health Science (Mental Health) through the Charles Sturt Graduate program.
Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Community Mental Health Services provide comprehensive, community-based mental health care across South Western Sydney. Services cater to different age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, and older persons, offering mental health assessments, crisis intervention, care coordination, and therapy in partnership with inpatient services, GPs, and other community organisations.
