Multiple ongoing and temporary full‑time positions available. 35 hours per week.

Locations: Sydney, Parramatta, Gosford, Newcastle, and Wollongong. Flexible. Hybrid working options available.

Clerk Grade: Level 5/6. Base salary $99,938 p.a. to $110,271 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

About The Team

The NSW Public Guardian can be appointed by a court or tribunal to make health and lifestyle decisions for people who cannot otherwise make decisions. This includes decisions such as where a person might live, their medical and dental treatment, health care, and other services. We also provide information and support to private and enduring guardians, service providers, and the wider community.

- Practice and Strategy: Provides advocacy, policy, and stakeholder engagement.
- Service Delivery: Offers guardianship services across NSW.
- Establishment and Quality Assurance: Manages triaging and education for new guardianship matters.
- Legal: Supports decision-making and handles legal matters.

About The Role

The Senior Guardian is responsible for delivering quality guardianship services to our customers. This role involves making decisions in line with policy and the Guardianship Act 1987 (NSW), maintaining accurate customer records, undertaking individual and systemic advocacy to achieve positive outcomes, and preparing accurate reports and recommendations for senior officers.

- Make decisions in line with policies and authority from the Guardianship Division.
- Ensure accurate and timely exchange of information with represented people, families, and key stakeholders, in compliance with relevant legislations.
- Conduct visits to people represented by the Public Guardian in line with the Guardianship Standards.

As a Senior Guardian You Will

- Make decisions about where a person lives and the services they receive such as personal care and therapy.
- Consent to medical and dental treatment and health care.
- Prepare guardianship‑related case reports for the Guardianship Division of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Work with key stakeholders such as family members, health professionals, and service providers to negotiate appropriate options and positive outcomes for the person.

Key Knowledge And Experience

- Knowledge of guardianship practice, advocacy and other services accessed by people with vulnerability.

Essential Requirements

- Degree and/or equivalent in social work, health, behavioural sciences or related discipline.
- Available to travel throughout NSW and to undertake after‑hours work where required.
