Role Summary
Are you passionate about building reliable systems that scale with the business? As Lead Site Reliability Engineer, you will shape how reliability, incident management, and operational excellence are embedded across Quantium’s engineering organisation.
This is a senior individual contributor role where you lead Site Reliability Engineering as a discipline, rather than operating as an embedded or on call responder. You will define standards, build shared foundations, and help engineering teams operate resilient, observable, and dependable systems at scale. Your focus is on lifting the organisation’s reliability maturity through strong practices, clear processes, and effective enablement.
You will partner closely with Engineering Managers, Product, Platform, and DevOps teams to drive consistent SRE practices across multiple teams. The role combines deep reliability and operational expertise with the ability to influence, educate, and lead change in a complex engineering environment.
This role is not about firefighting incidents or owning a single system. It is about shaping how engineering operates in production and ensuring reliability is designed in, understood, and sustained as the organisation grows.
How will you make an impact?
* Define and champion best practice for reliability, observability, and operational readiness across Quantium
* Own and roll out a consistent modern incident management framework across all engineering teams, including processes, tooling, and post incident practices
* Lead and allocate SRE specialists who embed into product teams to uplift reliability capability and maturity, prioritising the most impactful improvements to product teams.
* Build shared SRE foundations such as monitoring, alerting, observability patterns, and reporting used across products
* Drive behavioural and cultural change so teams proactively invest in reliability rather than reacting to incidents
* Ensure incidents are handled consistently and effectively, with the right people involved early and learnings captured and acted on
* Assess the operational health of systems across the organisation and prioritise improvement efforts where they matter most
* Partner with engineering leadership to balance reliability, delivery velocity, and long term sustainability
The superpowers you will bring to the team
* Significant experience in SRE, reliability engineering, platform, or operations roles within complex software environments
* A strong software engineering foundation with deep exposure to production systems and operational concerns
* Hands on experience with incident response and on call practices, even if no longer performing them day to day
* A clear point of view on what good SRE, observability, and incident management look like beyond just tooling or process
* Experience designing and scaling incident management, monitoring, and reliability practices across multiple teams
* Proven ability to influence behaviour and drive change across engineering organisations
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain operational concepts to engineers, managers, and non specialists
